suara banua news- BANJARMASIN, A major fire ravaged nearly 70% of the Universitas Lambung Mangkurat (ULM) Rectorate building on Monday morning, July 28, 2025.
The incident caused significant damage to the building and resulted in the loss of numerous important documents, including diplomas for graduating students.
The fire destroyed the rectorate’s first-floor auditorium, academic administration offices, student affairs offices, alumni office, and the second-floor CCTV room.
Approximately 40 computers, student data (S1, S2, S3 levels), and diploma printing equipment were also lost. Worryingly, all diplomas for the 125th graduation ceremony scheduled for August 7, 2025, were incinerated.
Despite this, ULM authorities have confirmed that the graduation ceremony will proceed as planned.
Graduating students will receive temporary certificates of completion while waiting for the reprinting of their diplomas, which have been reordered from PERURI (Perusahaan Umum Percetakan Uang Republik Indonesia).
The Vice Rector for Academic Affairs, Iwan Aflanie, guaranteed the safety of student and lecturer data.
The data server, located in a separate building, was unharmed in the fire. He also assured that ULM activities will continue using other buildings while repairs to the rectorate are underway.
Re-registration for new independent-track students, originally scheduled for July 28-31, 2025, will be rescheduled.
The Rector of ULM, Ahmad Alim Bachri, emphasized that the fire is unrelated to the recent professor verification process.
He also stated that the personnel office, which stores ULM’s personnel data, was unaffected by the fire.
The cause of the fire is currently under investigation by the police, with support from the South Kalimantan Regional Police (Polda Kalsel) and the Surabaya Forensic Laboratory (Labfor).
The South Kalimantan Regional Police, through its Director of General Criminal Investigation, Kombes Pol Frido Situmorang, stated that they will support the Banjarmasin Police investigation and await the results of the investigation from the Surabaya Labfor to determine the cause of the fire.*
